STARTING OUT ON YOUR PATHWAY
While wisdom is not always synonymous with age alone, many of us now travelling in the second half of life potentially have an opportunity to evolve into our own teachers and wisdom makers. Through recognition of our impending mortality, health changes and new life challenges, there are also opportunities to experience the deeper spiritual aspects of our selves. These transitions lead us towards the final transformation know as death to our spiritual home where out journey continues unabated. When embarking on a conscious spiritual awareness pathway of your choosing for the first time, regardless of your current age, culture, belief system, faith, education or social conditions, the journey can be overwhelmingly a positive life experience. Intuitively you may have felt inspired by your spirit helpers to embark on a particular pathway, or to attend a conscious spirituality workshop or class. Perhaps you have unexpectedly received a conscious spirituality book of some description. These and many similarly related events can contribute to your personal spiritual growth. Fruitful Ageing and Consciousness Development
Based in the USA, Dr Tom Pinkson is a spiritual conscious ageing practitioner with the wisdom of over forty years' experience in community mental and emotional healing work. In his brilliant book Fruitful Aging he suggests that spiritual practices and beliefs help make new pathway connections through a process of letting go.
As he suggests, meeting any of life’s challenges, expectations and opportunities can be demanding at any age. Yet simultaneously, through being mindful and consciously aware, they can of themselves be spiritually transforming experiences. Pinkson suggests that the following are potential transformative experiences:
“Both in my personal work and in my work with others I see that a spiritual belief system can be a great ally in letting go and opening to the new. Why? Because beliefs about something more and bigger than yourself provide a larger framework than ego with which to hold change. A spiritual belief system gives credence to a cosmic presence throughout creation. It stimulates the expansion of awareness into a sense of connection, unity and relationship with a deeper truth of who we truly are, what we are, and the interconnectedness of all existence.” |
